Winchester traveled to Plymouth Parkway on Tuesday for the first of two trips to mid table Devon sides in four days. Plymouth Parkway went into this match having won 15 and lost 15 of their league and were placed 11th in the Division, one place above Tiverton who Winchester travel to play on Saturday, Plymouth Parkway were promoted alongside Winchester last season and went inti Tuesday's match in impressive home form with their last 15 home league games producing 10 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat.
Winchester made three changes to their starting line-up from Saturday with I K Hill, Mark Jamison and Pip Nolan, the first two first two of whom were on the bench on Saturday replacing Ollie Warren Bentley, Callum Chugg and Ollie Griggs with Griggs on a substitutes bench that also included youngsters Regie Hodan and Kayden Traynor.
There was not much goalmouth action kin the first 15 minutes with the two sides cancelling each other out, but midway through the first half Jordi Valero makes a good save from a Rio Garside free kick, while at the other end Ollie Balmer hits the side netting.
However five minutes from the interval the home side take the lead. Jordi Valero saved a header from Jack Crago with his feet and at the expense of a corner, From the resulting corner the ball is played back into the box and Mikey Williams heads home.
Having been 1-0 behind at the interval after a fairly even first half Winchester bring on Josh Bertie for Max Smith at the start if the second half,
Henry Brooks also comes on for Jack Torniainen early in the second half, as Winchester tried to get back in the game, but Plymouth Parkway were solid at the back and Toby Down made an excellent last minute challenge to deny Bertie at the expense of a corner with 20 minutes remaining. In fact the home team came closest to scoring the game's next goal when a free kick from Harrison King hit the bar and following up home captain Austen Booth shot over. Ben Seymour also had an effort deflected for a corner.
During the second half Winchester made their third and final substitution with Ollie Griggs replacing Mark Jamison, but their second visit to Plymouth Parkway, this time for a fixture originally scheduled for October ended in the same way as the previous one with a 1-0 defeat.
Winchester though had earlier in the season played Truro at Plymouth Parkway's ground with the Cornish club also playing their home matches at Bolitho Park.
Their ground has a busy end of season with this being the third of six Southern League matches played on it from Saturday 15th April to Saturday 22nd April.
Credit is due to the players and fans who made the effort to make a long weekend journey and with unrelenting effort throughout the contest.
