Winchester achieved their first win of the season and their most convincing away win as a Southern League Premier Division club when they bear Dorchester 4-0. Dorchester had gone into this game with one loss and one draw from 2 league games with Shaquille Gwengwe having scored three goals in these games.. The Dorchester manager Glenn Howes was a former playing colleague of Crag Davis.
Winchester's three previous away fixtures to Dorchester (league games in 1972/73 and 2022/23) and an F A Cup tie in 1954/55 had all ended in defeat so it was pleasing to break our duck in convincing style.
Winchester made six changes to the starting line-up from Saturday with Jasper Sheikh replacing Charlie Philpott in goal and Mark Jamison, Pip Nolan, Dan Jones, Tommy Wright and Ollie Balmer coming in for Jordan Rose, Callum Chugg, Trevor Caborn, I I K Hill and Conor Lynch with Rose, Hill and Lynch on the substitutes bench.
Simba Mlambo came close to scoring early on after being set up by Balmer, but Lloyd Thomas in the home goal was able to block him. However it was Mlambo who opened the but scoring in the 24th minute, following up after LLoyd Thomas in the home goal made a good save from Wright. This was the only goal of the game's first period, but right at the end of the half Lloyd Thomas made a good save Ollie Balmer. Dorchester's best effort in the first half came when Sheikh saved an effort from Jordan Barnett, but Winchester generally had the better of the first half as they went into the interval with a 1-0 advantage,
Early in the second half Mlambo turned goal provider when he set up Wright for his firs league goal as a Winchester player yer. Ollie Balmer made it 3-0 on the hour when he scored with a well struck free kick from the edge of the box against the club he started last season with.
Conor Lynch who had just replaced Wright scored the 4th following a corner, although there was some debate as to whether it was him or Mark Jamison who got the final touch with both players claiming it. In between the 3rd and 4th goal Sheikh made an excellent save to deny Dorchester captain Jordan Ngalo and there was a goalmouth scramble in the Winchester area following this.e . Winchester used all three substitutes with Henry Brooks, Lynch and I K Hill the players coming on respectively replacing Danny King, Wright and Balmer. K Hi;ll Forced a good block from a home defender and Winchester finished the match the stronger team having a couple of off target efforts in the latter stages as team as they completed a memorable win, with good travelling support helping them achieve success.
