Winchester avenged their heaviest away league defeat of last season when three second half goals gave them a 3-1 win against Hayes and Yeading who won their first two games of the season, This result was a welcome return to winning ways for Winchester after their defeat against AFC Totton the previous week and represented their first Saturday victory of the campaign.
Hayes and Yeading are a former National League Premier Division club and are the only club in this division to play at this level under their current name.
Winchester made four change to the starting line-up from Saturday with Conor Lynch, Jordan Rose, Josh McCormick who made a welcome return to the club after rejoining from Bognor Regis, Trevor Caborn and Charlie Philpott coming in for Tommy Wright, Mark Jamison, Warren Bentley, Ollie Balmer and Jasper Sheikh with Bentley, Balmer and Jamison on the substitutes bench.
Early on Jake Adams in the home goal tipped over \an effort from Simba Mlambo, With continuous rain making good football difficult Sam Ashton put a through ball that no-one could get on the end of, while Charlie Philpott in the Winchester goal had to save from Sammi Odelusi and Cole Brown, Winchester certainly certainly had as much of the game in the first half and were unlucky to go behind at the interval when Sean O'Brien's cross was converted by Sam Ashton whose effort went into the roof of the net.
Having had the misfortune of going 1-0 behind right at the end of the first half Winchester were level 5 minutes into the game's second period when Jordan Rose headed home a Jamie Barron corner from Jamie Barron. Five minutes later it was 2-1 when Conor Lynch converted by Conor Lynch. It was Lynch's first league goal for the club with the fourth goal against Dorchester now credited to Mark Jamison. It has been a difficult week for Lynch following the death of his Nan for which the club sends its' condolence. The recovery was complete when Simba Mlambo finished a Winchester move.
The home team tried to get back in the game with Steve Ngunga forcing a save from Philpott and and from a free kick just outside the area Omar Rowe shot just over. However Winchester who after taking the two goal advantage replaced Trevor Caborn with I K Hill and towards the end bought on Ollie Balmer for Conor Lynch were playing with great resolution and always looked dangerous on the break.
Winchester are at home to Evesham in the F A Cup on Saturday.
