or the second time in three seasons Winchester were eliminated from the Hampshire Senior Cup by Havant an Waterlooville as they went down 3-1 to their higher league opponents.
For this match Winchester made nine changes to the starting line-up from Saturday with only goalkeeper Jasper Sheikh and defender Danny King keeping their places. IK Hill, Ollie Balmer, Conor Lynch, Josh McCormick and Jordan Rose who were all on the substitutes bench on Saturday were all given starting berths and there were recalls to the team for Henry Brooks, Max Smith, Alex Neild and Mark Jamison with Ollie Griggs, Tommy Wright, Pip Nolan, Archie Willcox and Trevor Caborn all of whom started on Saturday on the bench.
Havant and Waterlooville went into the match bottom of the National League South and recently appointed Steve King as manager to replace Jamie Collins. King is an experienced manager at the level Havant and Waterlooville play at having managed Lewes, Macclesfield, Farnborough, Dartford, Welling United and Gloucester City
The home team took the lead in the 16th minute through a low shot from Billy Stedman, but Winchester had chances of their own in the first half with I K Hill and Conor Lynch having shots saved and Conor Lynch having shots saved and Conor Lynch having an effort blocked. In the second half Balmer also forced a save from the home goalkeeper, while Lynch just failed to get a decisive touch following a good Winchester mov. Winchester made three substitutions at once with Wright, Caborn and Nolan replacing Hill, Lynch and Brooks. Soon after the substitutions were made Winchester drew level in the 78th minute when Jordan Rose playing against his former club followed up after his initial header was saved. However the home team soon restored their lead when Tom Mehew set up Mo Faal to score and in added on time Billie Busari scored with a spectacular strike to make the game safe.
Between the second and third goals Winchester made their third and final substitution with Archie Willcox replacing Josh McCormick, but Winchester kept battling even when two goals behind in added on time with Wright forcing a good save from the home goalkeeper and Griggs hitting the bar.
