Winchester's F A Cup replay with Reading City saw them earn a tie with Maidstone United, a club in the top half of the National League South having been relegated from the National League Premier Division last season. Winchester came from behind a 4-1 victory and earn a place in the 3rd qualifying round of the F A Cup for the 1st time since 2018/19.
Winchester made six changes to the starting line-up from Saturday with Ryan Pryce replacing Charlie Philpott in goal. and Pip Nolan, Ollie Griggs, Warren Bentley, Trevor Cabor4h n4D I k Hill replacing Mark Jamison, Callum Baughan, Dan Jones, Simba Mlambo and Ollie Balmer with Jamison, Mlambo and Balmer on the substitutes bench.
Winchester were on top in the early exchanges with Olli Griggs having a shot saved, Caborn and Wright having off target efforts and Bentley on his return to the side was linking well with his fellow attackers and I K Hill going on a couple of dangerous runs, They certainly made the visitors with the visitors having to defend deeply at times and to their credit Reading made some food interceptions and blocks. It was somewhat against the run of play when Reading took the lead in the 25th minute when Tyler Robinson broke clear and slotted home. However in the first match Reading showed they had forwards who could create one on one situations and they were always to be dangerous on the break, Caborn came close to equalizing, but ibn the 36th minute he did get on the scoresheet after bring set up by McCormick. Despite the disappointment of conceding Reading were certainly coming more into the game and Pryce had to make a good save to deny Robinson. With the score 1-1 at the interval there was everything very much to play fr.
Winchester however made an excellent start to the game's second period when three minutes into the second half I Hill who came so close to scoring in the firstt match cut inside and scored with a low shot into the bottom corner, However with the long Throws of Eddie Lavatzcuk and their pace up front Reading were still very much in the game, Winchester though were looking solid as a unit though and Jordan Rose came close to scoring the all important third goal. However it was was 3-1 with quarter of an when McCormick set up Wright to score. Shortly after the third goal went in Winchester made their first substitution of the evening with Simba Mlambo McCormick and score the fourth goal in the final minute of normal time when Wright put away the loose ball to complete the victory and send Winchester through to the next round.
