Winchester's match with Poole was abandoned after 51 minutes due to floodlight failure with the scores level at 1-1. Poole went into this match in sixth position, but were the leading scorers in the division. This was their first home match since 21st October.
Last season Poole qualified for the playoffs as a result of finishing fourth, Earlier in the season they parted company with long serving manager Tommy Killick and replaced him with former Bashley manager Matt Tubbs, Tubbs was a Salisbury team mate of Winchester boss Craig Davis from 2003 to 2006 and as a Salisbury players scored against Nottingham Forest in the 2bnd round proper of the F A Cup in 2006.
Winchester made one change to the starting line-up from Tuesday with Ollie Balmer replacing Simba Mlambo who dropped to the bench. There was also a first appearance on the bench for recent signing Devon Arnold. Goalkeeper Luke Cairney was playing against his former club and in last season's corresponding match he made several good saves to keep Winchester at bay. Poole were again able to field Wes Fogden a player with 97 football league goals to his name
Early on Max Smith had a shot blocked, while Mark Jamison had a header from a Ollie Balmer free kick deflected for a corner, but Winchester did take the lead in the 20th minute when Dan Jones who in the Walton and Hersham game from Trevor Caborn's crosses was able to make full use of Caborn's creativity on this occasion when he produces a good headed finish from another of Caborn's crosses.
Winchester certainly had the better of the early exchanges, but Poole came more into the game with Cairney making an excellent save to deny Wes Fogden. Jamie Whisken also comes close after Tony Lee flicks the ball on. Poole drew level on the half hour when Tony Lee's header is cleared off the line and Harvey Slade is able to score from close range. The rest of the first half is fairly even as we go into the interval with the scores level.
Early in the second half Dan Jones shoots just over from just outside the area, but only six minutes of play is possible in the second half Initially it was hoped that this problem could be rectified, but the efforts to do s ere unsuccessful. Having in recent matches having beaten Merthyr and Walton and drawn with Hungerford after falling behind scoring the first goal certainly increased Winchester's hopes that they could something from the game had it been completed.
On Saturday Winchester are at home to Didcot and on the following Tuesday are at home again with Tiverton the visitors, For the away trip to Plymouth Parkway on 6th January the club are organising a coach and people wishing to attend can enter their names on the unofficial fans forum,
