The match between the 2004 and 2005 F A Vase winners saw Didcot come from behind to win 2-1 with the winning goa being scored in added on time at the end of the second half.. Didcot went into this bottom of the table, but thus victory which was their second in a row and their third in six games.
Winchester made four changes to the starting line-up from Saturday Luke Cairney in goal and Jamie Barron, Tommy Wright and Simba Mlambo replacing Josh McCormick, Dan Jones and Devon Arnold with these changes meaning Ollie Griggs switching to full back. Both Cairney and McCormick were on the substitutes bench.
In a goalless first half the nearest Winchester came to scoring was when Pip Nolan got his head to a free kick from Ollie Balmer, but Simba Mlambo was not quite able to direct the ball goalwards. Tommy Wright also had a shot saved at the end of the half. Both teams though got in some crucial blocks in windy conditions, but despite the light rain the p[itch held up well. Ollie Griggs made on e particularly good block during the first half..
A strong wind and a persistent drizzle was a feature of the game, although generally the pitch played well considering. However one Danny7 King effort almost deceived Leigh Bedwell in t5he home goal.
Winchester did take the lead two minutes into the second half when Tommy Wright sets up Trevor Caborn who scores with a low shot into the corner. Wright almost increased Winchester's lead soon afterwards, but Wright's effort was factionally of target.
Winchester were in the ascendancy after scoring, but Didcot began to get more in the game and with quarter of an hour left Luke Carnell scores with a header following a corner from Sam Barder. . After the equalizer both teams had their attacking moments, but the game seemed to be on course for a draw until Harvey Fox's late winner. Midway through the second half Winchester replaced Ollie Balmer with Henry Brooks and in added on time at the end of the game Josh McCormick replaced Trevor Caborn.
It is fair to say that Bedwell made a couple of saves in the second half to keep his team in the game, but Didcot were a spirited side who battled hard to come from behind to win the game and certainly their band of supporters expressed their delight in achieving s late victory. Winchester though will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Basingstoke on Saturday.
