On an evening where wet and windy conditions were a feature of much of the game Winchester came from two goals behind to draw with Swindon Supermarine who had scored a total of 11 goals on their last two visits to Winchester's ground. On this occasion it was two goals in the last quarter of an hour that earned Winchester a point. It was very much a game of two halves with Swindon Supermarine clearly the better team in the first half, but Winchester coming back strongly in the second half, although the visitors always looked dangerous on the break.
Swindon Supermarine made a poor start to the campaign losing their first seven league games, but they have shown improved form recently and are now out of the relegation zone. They recently appointed Stuart Fleetwood as manager. Fleetwood had previously coached at Yate and as a player was part of the Eastleigh team that was promoted to the National League in 2013/14, and Fleetwood was top scorer in the National League in 2007/08 as a Forest Green player. Star striker Harry Williams who last season scored 34 goals in 34 league games for the club is now back at Swindon Supermarine and he was on the substitutes bench against Winchester.
Winchester made three changes to the starting line-up from Saturday with the full back pairing of Josh McCormick and Danny King returning to the team which which meant that jack Torniainen and Jordan Rose were on the substitutes bench, while I K Hill replaced Ollie Balmer who dropped to the bench.
In the first half Winchester only forced routine saves from the Swindon Supermarine goalkeeper to make routine saves, while the visitors forced several corners and Luke Cairney had to make excellent saves from David Sims_Burgess and Henry Spalding to keep them and Swindon also several corners and were having the better of the midfield battle.. The away team took the lead in the 35th minute through Ryan Campbell who was supporting his team's attack well all evening, although his shot was probably easier to keep out than efforts Cairney had saved earlier.
Winchester started the second half with more urgency, with both Tommy Wright and Ollie Balmer who had come on as a substitute having efforts saved, in Balmer's case from a free kick. Full back Josh McCormick was overlapping to good effect and the home team were getting several crosses into the box, Ir was not all one way traffic as Campbell put in a cross that no-one could a decisive touch yo' and another cross was almost deflected in. 20 minutes into the second half Swindon Supermarine scored their second with David Sims-Burgess following a good team move, although that goal came somewhat against the run of play. Cairney also made a good save from Spalding yo keep Winchester in the game. .
Winchester though kept battling and with Josh McCormick overlapping to good effect they were able to get several crosses into the box, They pulled a goal back in the 77th minute through Stuart Mott. Shortly after scoring Mott was replaced by Henry Brooks as Winchester's third substitution of the afternoon with Ollie Balmer replacing Mlambo and Jordan Rose replacing Max Smith.
I K Hill scored the 86th minute equalizer and if anything had the better of the remainder of the game, but it was a good recovery after being 2-0 down. Right at the end of added on time Winchester came very close to scoring a winning goal, with a shot that was only narrowly wide.
