Winchester went down to a 2-1 defeat at Poole which moves them down to 11th in the table as a result of Dorchester winning. They announced an unchanged 16 from Saturday with the only changes seeing Simba Mlambo and Max Smith start instead of Tommy Wright and Ollie Balmer who dropped to the bench having been substituted on Saturday.
They however made a bright start with I K Hill giving them an early lead, but two goals by Toby Holmes, one in each half ans the first from the penalty sport consigned them to a defeat. Holmes had in fact scored Poole's third goal in Winchester's 3-0 defeat in their first ever match in the Southern League Premier Division.
Simba Mlambo had chances to score either side of Hill's seventh minute opener, but Winchester's lead only lasted 10 minutes before Poole scored their equalizer.
Before half time Winchester's Trevor Caborn and Josh McCormick had shots saved, while at the other end Luke Cairney playing against his former club saves from Holmes. Tyler Forbes hits the side netting and Holmes just fails to get a decisive touch to a cross from Forbes,.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half both goalkeepers make good saves with Max Evans saving from I k Hill and Cairney again saving from Holmes. Winchester then make two substitutions with Dan Jones and Ollie Balmer replacing Simba Mlambo and Jamie Barron.
Poole's all important goal came in the 77th minute through Holmes who converts at the near post following a good run by Declan Rose. Prior to the goal Luke CAirney had to make a further good save to keep the hoe team out Wes Fogden hit the bat, while for Winchester Poole defender Josh Staunton has to clear at the expense of a corner.
Soon after going behind for the first time Winchester made their third and final substitution with Tommy Wright replacing Ollie Griggs, Wright and Griggs were in fact Winchester's last two goalscorers, but they were unable to score an equalizer.
This was the fourth attempt to play the match with one abandonment and two postponements delaying playing the game until more than four months after the original date. With Poole having problems with their pitch the match was in fact played at Dorchester.
Poole have had a difficult run of results which has move them too close to the relegation zone for comfort. They are on their fourth manager of the season after long serving gaffer Tommy Killick was sacked early in the season, his replacement Matt resigned and his replacement sacked. They are now under the guidance off Steve Tully who was pleased shown by his side and it is clear that with the players they have they have the potential to be much higher in the league than they actually are.
