Having also played on Tuesday Winchester were again in action on Thursday when they travelled to Tiverton who had also played on Tuesday and went into the match in the relegation, but the division was so tight that a result in this game could see them climb four places in the table.
For Tiverton it was their sixth home league game in 26 days and their form on home territory has seen them win three and lose two of their last five games on home soil, but two of their home wins have been excellent 2-0 home wins against champions Chesham and playoff chasing Merthyr.
Both teams have a free midweek next week, but in a rain ravaged season it seems that the league are trying to avoid matches being played then, as any postponement of these games could make it far more difficult for all club to play their final games of the season at the same time and the issues associated with not doing so.~
Winchester made four changes to the starting line-up from Tuesday with Trevor Caborn, Pip Nolan, Tommy Wright and Mark Jamison coming in for I K Hi;l. Simba Mlambo, Max Smith and Jordan Rose. Rose was amongst Winchester's four substitutes for this game, but neither of the other three were. Ryan Pryce, Devon Arnold and Ollie Balmer were again amongst the substitutes again.
Early on Joe Parker who went inti this match having scored 7 of Tiverton's last Southern League goals shot just wide following a Niall Thompson cross, while at the other end Caborn has a shot blocked. Another cross from Thompson sees Tiverton again shot just wide, while Dan Jones exchanged passes with Tommy Wright, but saw his effort blocked.
Parker forces Caurney to save with legs, but Tiverton took the lead on the half hour through Jack Rice-Lethaby wit Thompson again involved in the move passing to Parker who sets up Rice-Lethaby who scores with a low shot.
Before half time a Stuart Mott from a Jamie Barron free kick is cleared, but Winchester trail 1-0at the break.
Winchester had a lot of possession at the start of the second half, but although Wright had three efforts on goal, two of which were off target they did not really trouble Zak Baker in the Tiverton goal.
Tiverton then scored their all important second goal when 15 minutes to play and again it was Joe Parker who in addition to his recent scoring form had scored Tiverton's goal at Winchester, that scored it, finding the net with a well executed lob. By this stage Winchester had replaced Trevor Caborn Jamie Barron with Jordan Rose.
After going 2-0 behind Winchester replace Jamie Barron with Devon Arnold and they later bring on Ollie Balmer for Sam Ashton and although Ashton adds some impetus to the Winchester play and they keep battling Winchester find a determined Tiverton team difficult to break down and and at the other end Luke Cairney has to make a save at the expense of a corner.
In added on time Winchester have a free ick in a dangerous position, but the free kick was blocked and eventually cleared.
Thanks are due to any Winchester personnel who travelled to this game especially those who took tie off work to do so.
After the match Craig Davis was full of praise for Tiverton who felt showed a hunger to get the points. He was however frustrated with the fixture scheduling and although it appears to the league's aim for all teams to play their final matches of the season at the same time the fact that the weather forecast for Tiverton next week is mostly good appeared to confound his frustration.
Stuart Munro also gave an interview where he outlined future. Stuart has been an important addition to the club this season.
