or the second successive week Winchester featured in a match containing eight goals as they shared the spoils spoils in a 4-4 draw with Hanwell Town in a match in which in which both team surrendered the lead twice., and all of the goals coming in the final 50 minutes of the encounter. The two clubs had previously met in 2006/07 when both matches were won by the home team and last season where both matches were won by the away team.
At the start of play Hanwell were one point ahead of Winchester having played one match more. and this represented their third third score draw in a row in the league and for Winchester their second.
Winchester made four changes to the sating line-up from the previous with Ryan Pryce replacing Luke Cairney in goal and Ollie Balmer and Mark Jamison, Ollie Balmer and Simba Mlambo replacing Jordan Rose, Trevor Caborn and Max Smith with Rose and Smith on the substitutes bench..
The first period of the first half was fairly uneventful with not much goalmouth action, but Ryan Pryce made a good save from Sam Evans pushing his effort round the post for a corner, while Dan Winchester defence did well to clear a cross from Dan Carr into their penalty area.
At the other end Sam Evans became involved at the other end of the pitch as he makes two vital blocks to deny the visitors while an attempt from Winchester's captain Jamie Barron was just off target. Sam Evans had a shot deflected for a corner and headed just wide from the resulting set piece. However Winchester took the lead in the 41st minute when Hanwell goalkeeper Sam Beasant made a good sav, but Jamie Barron who scored a late winner in last season's corresponding fixture was on hand to score. Beasant who is the son of Wimbledon, Southampton and England goalkeeper Dave Beasant was making his debut for Hanwell and some people might recall him playing for Chesham against Winchester last season.
However after going a goal behind Hanwell replied almost immediately with Elliot Benyon holding up the ball up well for Evans to score with a low shot into the corner and it became 2-01 to the home team just before the interval when a penalty was awarded for a challenge on Benyon which resulted in Evans scoring his second goal of the game.
Having not held the lead at any point during their last three games it was disappointing for Winchester to gain it and then go behind four minutes later and find themselves trailing at the interval.
It certainly required character for Winchester to come back into the game and although Evans cane close to completing his hat-trick the visitors did start the second half strongly and they drew level when Barron converted a cross from Balmer for his second goal of the game.
The match then became very end to end with the Winchester defence blocked an effort from Evans at the expense of corner, while Dan Carr makes a crucial challenge to deny Simba Mlambo.
However 13 minutes into the second half it became Winchester's turn to take the lead after falling behind when a cross from Josh McCormick was deflected past his own goalkeeper by Dwayne Duncan. It was the second successive match between the two clubs that Duncan had got on the scoresheet, but at different ends of the pitch.
However unfortunately again for Winchester the lead did not last long, with three minutes later Duncan making up for his own goal by outjumping the Winchester defence at a corner and his header enabled Abdul Osman to score from close range.
20 minutes into the half the lead changed hands again making it 7 goals in 25 minutes when a foul by Winchester captain Jamie Barron on Herson Alves led to Barron who was booked contesting the first penalty receiving a second yellow card and Evans converting his second penalty of the game. A minute before scoring Evans had a shot saved by Pryce.
A goal down and a man down it seemed a tall order for Winchester to het back in the game and they responded by bringing on Max Smith fr I K Hill and Dan Jones for Balmer, but they drew level after Jones scored with virtually his first touch after coming on as he converted a cross from Danny King at the back post.
Although Tommy Wright was replaced by Conor Lynch who played for Hanwell in last season's corresponding fixture and there was 10 minutes of added on time there the remainder of the game did not produce much goalmouth action as Winchester drew an entertaining game against a club nicknamed the Geordies because of their Newcastle links.
Winchester are at home to Harrow Borough on Saturday.
