To give you all a heads up to book trains etc, there will NOT be a coach to Tiverton (please don't shoot the messenger)

Please tell me why George? Last Saturday cost the club £1200+ which literally was thrown away. We cannot afford this to happen again.

Five hours there from Alton, five hours back to Alton. That's why.

You could always make up the difference between how much we take from supporters & what the coach company charge George to ensure there’s a coach. The club doesn’t have a bottomless pit of money & live within their means so if they can’t afford a coach then so be it.

Five hours there from Alton, five hours back to Alton. That's why. Out of interest, how long would the journey have been for you WITH a coach? After getting bus to Winch, walking to ground from the station, waiting to pick up players and stopping at a services for a break, that's gotta be near on 5 hours anyway???

The difference is that there probably would have been enough time for me to have something to eat in Winchester before the bus back home. In this case I won't be back home until 10:45.

I think the train journey from Alton to Tiverton Parkway is just over three and half hours and the time it takes to travel the five and half miles from Tiverton Parkway to the ground can vary according to the way you decide to negotiate it.
I travel to quite a lot of football matches by public transport and food forms an important part of my day. I usually but plenty of food from Matts Bakery in Eastleigh at the start of the day, if I am travelling through Reading as the Alton to Tiverton Parkway as this journey does I would buy one or even two of their chesses and onion pasties.
Actually in this case getting the 18.08 from Tiverton Parkway which gets into Alton at 21.40 maybe the best way to arrive, but George has to plan how he wishes to make this journey should he decide to undertake it.

Except that there are engineering works between Reading and Guildford on that weekend, including at Ascot, so I'll have to go to Exeter Central.

I see on the day in question there is a train on the way home that leaves Tiverton Parkway at 18.08 and arrives back at Winchester at 21.04. Would that be any good for people?
