For the second time this season Winchester City and Plymouth Parkway shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with the home team coming from behind to earn a point. The result meant that Winchester remained in 10yj place just behind Henson whom they play on Saturday. Prior to this game the city of Plymouth had not been a happy hunting ground for Winchester ass they had lost 1-0 to Plymouth Parkway there in each of the previous two seasons and they also lost 3-0 to Truro last season.
Plymouth Parkway went into this match 3rd from bottom having lost five league games, but they still have a better record in terms of points per game than some of the teams above them in the table.
Wet weather has very mach has very much put Plymouth Parkway ahead with their fixtures especially at home and even after this game they had 14 games to go, eight of them at home.
The recent spate of postponements on home soil had led to Plymouth Parkway switching the venue of their home games and this fixture was played at Plymouth Argyle's home ground, having played their previous home game at Yate's ground. It is not often that a team plays three successive home games at three different venues.
Winchester made one change to the starting line-up from Saturday with Devon Arnold replacing I K Hill and the substitutes also being unchanged from Saturday. Although Winchester forced a corner early on the home team started the game well having a goal disallowed and having a couple of dangerous attacks. However it was Winchester who ,took the lead in the 14th minute when a poor back pass was intercepted by Trevor Caborn who rounded the goalkeeper before putting the ball away. Caborn had an exam on the day of the match which affected the time he could leave to male the long journey to play in the match and so it was particularly pleasing for him to get on the score sheet early in the game and to score Winchester's first goal in 285 minutes of football in Devon's largest city.
However midway through the first half the home team were level when Tom Purrington scored with a low shot from just outside the area after a cross was only partially cleared. The home team then hit the post and with the ball being cleared at the expense of a corner Jack Crago headed just over from the remaining corner,
In the remainder of the first half for the home team Jack Crago hit the side netting and Rio Garside hit the bar with a free kick, while at the other end Winchester had a free kick of their own which Plymouth did well to block and clear. Plymouth enjoyed greater possession in the first half, nut Winchester were for the most part defending solidly and always had potential to catch the home team on the break.
Winchester made two substitutions at the half time interval with Jamie Barron replacing Dan Jones and Simba Mlambo coming on for Devon Arnold. Early in the second half Rio Garside had an effort deflected for a corner after being set up by Ryan Lane, and they almost scored following a goalmouth scramble However Winchester made their their third substitution of the evening with Sam Ashton replacing Ollie Balmer. They certainly came more into the game vas an attacking force with Mlambo's pace a threat to Plymouth. Adam Parkes in the home goal was just able to beat Caborn to the ball with the Winchester forward clear of the home defence. Towards the end Mlambo put Caborn through, but his effort was wide. Plymouth also came close during 4 minutes of added on time, but Winchester certainly finished the match strongly s they obtained a useful point on the roads from a long midweek away trip.,
